I always liked President Johnson. He thought about things and he changed his mind about things sometimes. He struggled with the administration he inherited. I was a young person then, and wrote to his wife when he died, saying I would miss him and was sure many others would too. Thank you for this great essay.

It's a tragedy for America that the conflict in Vietnam ruined the legacy of a man who had so much to give to our nation.
