"Republican" State Parties' Race to the Bottom
They are competing to see which can nominate the craziest, most evil candidates
North Carolina Republican nominees Mark Robinson (governor) and Michele Murrow (state Superintendent of Education). At first glance, it looks like the state party is moving in a more inclusive direction. In fact, both are rightwing lunatics trying to out-Nazi their Dear Leader.
Those of us who live in Mississippi are always grateful when another state does something even more outrageous than what happens here. The “Republican” Party that now opposes having a republic in several states is offering some strong competition with the candidates they are nominating statewide races.
The GOP (Greedy Old Party) in the state to which we will be moving soon, North Carolina, may be hard to beat in this race to the bottom.
First, I present their newly crowned candidate for governor:
“Hitler disarming millions of Jews and then marching them off to concentration camps is a bunch of hogwash,” “Republican” nominee for governor of North Carolina Mark Robinson has declared.
Robinson endorsed a podcast host’s conspiracy fable that Jewish bankers are one of the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” along with Muslims, China and the CIA.
He has called the Civil Rights Movement “Communism” and Martin Luther King, Jr. “a fake.” He categorized segregated America as Black people expressing “self-determination.”
He refers to “the climate change cabal.” He mocked Paul Pelosi after he was brutally attacked by a MAGA supporter who invaded his home:
He likes to repost faked pictures indicating that Michelle Obama is really a man. In 2017, shortly before the Obamas left the White House, Robinson posted on Facebook:
“Michelle Obama is an anti-American, abortion and gay marriage supporting, liberal leftist elitist and I'll be glad when he takes his boyfriend and leaves the White House.”
He has absurdly claimed that North Carolina hospitals are performing gender-changing surgeries on five-year-olds.
“When the chips are down, when the FBI is knocking on my door, will I cower?” Robinson said, “Will I comply or will I stand up and fight? Folks, it’s time to stand up and fight.” Note he is running as a candidate of a party that used to claim to support law enforcement and represents the extremist wing of that party that admires dictators who “rule with an iron fist,” which one might reasonably take to mean that they are the ones who would actually send in the “jack-booted thugs” the rightwing has long been warning about.
Robinson believes — on divine authority — that women are not suited for leadership. Christians are “called to be led by men.”
He aims to eliminate abortion rights completely, without exception.
In 2020, Robinson said:
“I absolutely want to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote.”
And then there's this: He called the Parkland school-shooting survivors “prosti-tots.”
The man at the head of the North Carolina Authoritarian Party’s ticket may be being outdone in outrageousness by the candidate for State Superintendent of Schools:
Michele Morrow, who home-schools her own children, now seeks to run the public schools she does not believe in. What she does believe in is a variety of QAnon “conspiracies,” such as that celebrities are harvesting the blood of children to consume in rituals.
She has called for the execution of President Obama and President Biden. She indicated that, while some wanted to kill President Obama via the electric chair, she believed he should be executed by firing squad on pay-per-view to raise money:
Murrow said Biden is a traitor who was working with China to have a Chinese army invade the United States from Canada to prevent Trump from staying in office:
Murrow has often used the hashtag “#deathtotraitors” for posts indicating that those who have brought charges against Trump are traitors. She also uses such as hashtags #IslamIsEvil and #ToleranceIsDeadly.
Whether she, like prospective RFK, Jr running mate Aaron Rodgers, believes that the Sandy Hook massacre of school children didn’t happen and 9/11 was a US government plot, I do not know at this time.
As they do with other rightwing fanatics, the mainstream media refer to Murrow as a “conservative,” and call her assertions “controversial,” rather than deranged. It was said during the primary that she was “running as a more conservative option.” If the American Republic perishes, the media’s use of mild-sounding terminology to describe ultra-radical extremists will deserve a considerable share of the blame.
The only good news in this horror show is that these nominees should help to put North Carolina in the “lean Biden” category well before Election Day.
