NO ONE knows how it will turn out. Predictions [perhaps meaningfully, autocorrect changed that word to “Pre ruins” when I typed it] of a “Red Wave” are intended to discourage Democrats and believers in democracy and Americanism from voting. The media continue to play into the hands of the haters by endlessly regurgitating polling numbers that could be fairly accurate, but the models pollsters are using may be very different from this year’s electorate, which probably will include far more women and young people than past models.
It is entirely possible that the sort of multicolor American "blue" wave composed of a massive women's vote and pro-democracy vote combined with voters of all skin colors, a rainbow wave, a green (environmental/climate change) wave in the above image could be developing.. A giant Freedom Wave to overwhelm the racist-misogynist-authoritarians who have taken control of the party formerly known as “republican.” It could happen, but only if we make it happen.
Beware of a flood of disinformation today and tomorrow, particularly with Elon Musk having fired the Twitter staff responsible for blocking misinformation. Ignore social media hysteria. Just get out and vote.
Be ready on Tuesday evening for the party-formerly-known-as-Republican to roll out the “Red Mirage” strategy they used in 2020: Republicans may be in the lead when same-day votes are counted before the pre-Election Day and mail-in ballots, which are likely to favor Democrats are counted. Republicans will claim victory prematurely.
The re-emergence of Trump in the media appears to be energizing Democrats and reminding independents of what voting for Republicans means.
Ukrainians are fighting a war to preserve their democracy and freedom. Our American forebears fought wars to preserve our democracy and freedom. All you need to do now to preserve our democracy and freedom is vote. That may no longer be the case if “Republicans” take control of Congress and key governorships tomorrow.
All of us who believe in democracy must adopt a version of the unofficial post office motto:
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night nor long lines nor photos of voters in handcuffs nor armed fascist goons in tactical gear at polling places nor any intimidation will stay American citizens from the swift—or slow—completion of their appointed right and duty.
VOTE, no matter what. There is no acceptable excuse for not voting this year.
8. Keep your eyes on the prize: The Preservation of the American Experiment in self-government, freedom, and equality.
9. Vote like your lives depend on it. They do. VOTE!
